Void/Impasse 03:16
Void reflects the mirror-like thought of self. There is something in all this emptiness that has a shape of a particular death, whispering sweet things in my ears. Void reflects the mirror-like thought of self. No one else is around to fight this dread. Growing sick of war, sick of famine. Light should come from within. Can't look for new gods. How do you acquire the courage to exist? As a set of numbers, submerged in the routine of your own economic class and strata? I must change. I must whittle my square edges to fit.
2.
How much of your solicitude for other humans is real and honest? How much is it a feigned lacquer painted on by society? Afraid to face myself. With a heart which throbs and mocks; with a heart that may break again. Should I cast myself like a wounded ship? Living in a fucked up society that has made an art of hiding its own ends. Humiliation as a political reality, eternal rights left behind. We must know how we hurt people, not just how people hurt us. Complicit in choosing to ignore the suffering on this planet. With the speed of consuming lies, totally unaware. Waiting at the edge to see an end to this war. This war of all against all. Silence won't protect you - silence is death.

Men, as the creators of systems of morality, have defined what is right and what is wrong. Men, as the engineers of life, have defined all the words we use. Men, as the makers of law, have defined what is legal and what is not. Patriarchy has defined for us who we are and what are values are, how we perceive ourselves, how we understand what happens to us... A womxn’s body is not a public treasury, nor it is open for foreign intrusions. By the state, by strangers, by men. For the state, for strangers, for men. The meaning of life. "Her choice was a moral failure." What's important must be spoken, all the silences broken. At the root of all definitions, they have made one resolute conviction: that womxn were put on this earth for the single use and pleasure, the sexual gratification of men.

We must all seek those words out. Do not hide behind those mockeries and separations that have been imposed on us, which so often we accept as our own. Living through this shit in silence will not lead you to safety. Pain will bring you back from dreaming. Everything can be used, except what is wasteful. Immortalists with points to prove. What are the tyrannies you swallow day by day? We should learn to speak when we are afraid. We have chosen each and each others' battles.

about

Silence Will Not Protect You has been hugely inspired by Audre Lorde, a fierce black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet.

“I was going to die, sooner or later, whether or not I had even spoken myself. My silences had not protected me. Your silences will not protect you.... What are the words you do not yet have? What are the tyrannies you swallow day by day and attempt to make your own, until you will sicken and die of them, still in silence? We have been socialized to respect fear more than our own need for language.

I began to ask each time: "What's the worst that could happen to me if I tell this truth?" Unlike women in other countries, our breaking silence is unlikely to have us jailed, "disappeared" or run off the road at night. Our speaking out will irritate some people, get us called bitchy or hypersensitive and disrupt some dinner parties. And then our speaking out will permit other women to speak, until laws are changed and lives are saved and the world is altered forever.

Next time, ask: What's the worst that will happen? Then push yourself a little further than you dare. Once you start to speak, people will yell at you. They will interrupt you, put you down and suggest it's personal. And the world won't end." Audre Lorde
